I remember the song. It’s stretching the truth quite a bit. However, in 1957 Rambler brought out a limited edition model called the “Rebel”. This car had, I believe, a 327 cubic inch V-8 (no relation to the Chevrolet 327 that came out in 1962). Only 1500 of these Rambler Rebels were made in 1957 and they were all the same metallic gray color. Another fast car of this time period was the Studebaker Golden Hawk. Both of these cars could outrun the Cadillac and almost anything else on the road. Both the Studebaker and the Rambler Rebel lacked the image of being fast cara, and it is the fast car image that is important for sales.

Not only do I remember it, now it’s stuck in my head and I can’t make it stop! Arrrrgh. Time for the evening cocktail.
