Automatic transmission fluid

Need some advice on what type of ATF fluid to use on a 1972 Dodge charger with a 3 speed automatic…

I seem to remember an announcement from Chrysler that ATF +4 was now recommended for all Chrysler transmissions. This would certainly apply to the 3-speed TF999, but not the 4-speed AW4, which requires Dexron. Your owner’s manual should tell you for sure. You can also go to allpar.com and search this out.

In 1972 there were only 2 types of ATF. Type F and Type A, which was renamed Dexron. Dexron should still work fine today in your Torque-Flite transmission.
