Audi Internal Control Module

My wife was driving our 2003 Audi A6 today when a bunch of warning lamps came on & the car acted just a little weird. That was the best description she could give. She drove it like that about 3 or 4 milest to her office. She stopped for 15 minutes, then drove it to the dealer. From office to dealer, everything was fine & no warning lights. They told her that the computer registered a “fault in the Internal Control Module” and it would cost $2200 to replace the module.

My question is, if the fault is gone now, how likely is it to return, and how dangerous is it if it returns. The dealer seemed to avoid answers to these questions pretty well.

Thanks to anyone who can advise.
