PT Cruiser Internal Controller Failure

The engine light in my 2001 PT Cruiser came on, so I had the local mechanic run the diagnostics. The code came up as P0601-PCM Internal Controller Failure. This happened once before (a year or so ago) when I was living in CA and the mechanic there couldn’t find anything wrong with the car. He reset the defaults and the light went off and there haven’t been any problems since.

The question is whether or not I should take this into the dealer to have the Powertrain Control Module replaced or not? Should I find somebody to reset the defaults again? Any ideas as to how expensive this is going to be? Thanks!

If it is a controller(computer)failure, it’s covered under the mandated EPA emission warranty for 8 years/80,000 miles. Which means the dealer must replace it at no cost to you.
