How to turn off airbage light on a 1998 Ram 1500? No accidents wrecks, light just came on. Have disconnected battery. Please do not say “take it to the dealer”. I do not care if air bags work I need to pass inspection.
Simple, fix whatever is wrong with the SRS.
I hate to say this, but the dealer is the only place capable of diagnosing and repairing the SRS (airbag). If the light is on, the airbags are deactivated, and will not function.
You could try pulling the SRS fuse(s) to make the light go away, but that may not help for inspection.
This may be covered under warranty. Our 1997 Chrysler Town & Country’s light came on earlier this year and the clockspring in the steering wheel was replaced for free by the dealer–it was a factory recall item or something. I know of others who have had this same work done for free on similar year Chrysler products. So I say “take it to the dealer”.
