Advice on electrical short and power windows

hello. can anyone tell me the name of this part? the black wire goes the to the POSitive power terminal on my battery and the red disappears under dash. when its not hooked up, power windows don’t work. when it IS hooked up i usually have to jump car to start it. severe drain. getting worse. now one window that did work,

just goes down like an inch.

It looks like a circuit breaker.

so if i searched for”circuit breaker “… would it be a “pontiac power window circuit breaker”?

They are like fuses, you can take it to the auto parts store and have it matched up, may be with the fuses on the showroom floor… You will need to know what amp it is also, should be marked IIRC…

Maybe give us all your vehicle information and we can help, year make model engine size

The problem is probably not the circuit breaker, it is downstream of it. Since the power windows only go down and inch before sticking, perhaps therein lies part of the problem…

Thank you! in my area anyway, the behind the counter parts for cars of this age are slim. its a 65 pontiac bonneville. don’t you think its unusual to have one of the wires hook directly to battery terminal? and the black wire at at that?

Power window wiring can get pretty complicated, get a wiring diagram and start there…
