i have a bone stock 78 monte carlo with a 305 v8. i recently wrecked it but the engine and tranny are perfectly fine. there is only 78k on both all original. i was wondering if that 305 would mount up at a 88 chevy 2wd pickup tranny.
Yes, the engine block will bolt up to the frame and the transmission. It won’t run, though, and I don’t think the transmission will work right either.
what if i pull the tranny and engine and sit that in the truck will it still not run? if not please explain
I don’t think the transmission will bolt in to that truck, and the trans in the 88 surely has a lock-up torque converter. Not sure about the 78.
As for the engine, how are you going to get spark and fuel? 88 Chevy pickup is fuel injected and has EST ignition. 78 has a carb and plain old HEI distributor. 78 has a mechanical fuel pump on the engine, what are you going to hook it to?
