I have the 2018 traverse. Recently I was driving slowly downhill ( not steep) and I put the car to a halt so as to reverse into a parking. When I engaged the reverse gear, I heard a loud (pots and pans) noise coming from below. Loud grinding noise, back to neutral all is ok…back to R, the grinding noise, very loud.
What might have happened?
My guess, something in the transmission broke. Time for a tow to the dealer.

This happened to me. When I drove it in for repair, the service people hearg it and thought that my rear differential was falling apart. Turned out to be just a stone stuck between the rear rotor and dust shield. Hope you get that lucky.
