Vehicle started fine, however, when I moved the gear to “D”, it automatically shifted to “P”. Checked all the doors in case there was some safety feature but all were closed. Same thing happened to other members of my family. When towing arrived , the vehicle’s transmission seemed to be working fine. Trying to diagnose it at Umansky Jeep in Charlottesville before it becomes a major issue!

It’s possible there’s something causing the shift cable (assuming it has one) to bind. There could also be an internal transmission problem. I’m not a mechanic and these are just guesses on my part.
