2012 Toyota Tundra 4WD Truck - Won't come out of park

truck will not come out of park when engine is turned on

Well stop talking dirty to it…

Seriously though, do you here the shift lock solenoid clicking?? (when pressing on the brake pedal)

Check brake lights and cruse control work, if so you might have a bad shift lock solenoid…

Can you put it in neutral and start it or use the manual release button by the shifter??

Be sure to step on the brake pedal first. If that doesn’t work, next check if the brake lights are turning on when you step on the brake pedal. there’s a built-in safety feature that prevents a little kid waiting in the car while the parent goes into 7-11, prevents the kid from shifting out of P unless the brake pedal is applied first. Kid can’t reach the brake pedal, so Tundra doesn’t drive into 7-11’s plate glass window.

Neither of my cars has this feature, too old. I learned about this one day when I was driving out in the middle of the San Diego area desert. When I returned to car after stopping to look at the cactus, rental car wouldn’t come out of P. Oh oh, very hot, and no water! Then I saw a sticker on the lower portion of the dashboard, bold lettering “Must apply brake pedal before shifting out of P”.
