I got into my van after a repair. The car had been left running and the brake light, abs light and another light with an exclamation point were on. Brakes worked fine. Drove off with these lights on but after turning the van off and restarting the lights did not come back on. I’m confused.
just a thought. maybe from them working on your vehicle the battery was drained. maybe it is the reason why the left it running, to charge the battery. a low battery will cause a lot of weird things to happen. like those lights being on.
As long as he check engine light turns on w/key in “on” before starting the engine, then immediately goes out after starting, and the other warning lights remain off, whatever was causing those post-service warning lights is unlikely to be of any concern going forward.
Theories about why those lights were on in the first place?
- WW’s idea above about the battery.
- Vehicle’s computer may have been in placed in a test-mode to enable the servicing.
IMO your shop made a significant mistake by presenting the car to you as “job done” while those warning lights remained. Suggest to mention this to the shop’s manager in a polite manner, letting him know you expect better. If it happens again, don’t drive away from the shop; go back into the office don’t leave until all the warning lights are out or they tell you they don’t know why the warning lights are one, and they need to keep the car longer.
