Intermittent sputter on startup, can be cold or hot. Also intermittent rough start, seems to happen at totally different occasions.
I noticed both of these maladies after having both timing belts replaced. I was told the lower was not disturbed.
A number of questions:
Is the check engine light on?
How many miles on your vehicle?
Which engine does it have?
Do you have a list of parts replaced with the timing chains (you have chains, not belts) ?
The symptoms could be caused by a problem with the car’s evap emissions system. Suggest to ask you shop to check that system. In many cases – but not all — this would cause the check engine light to turn on.
IS the check engine light on??
If you had 2 “timing belts” those were not timing belts, they were accessory drive belts, sometimes called serpentine belts.
If you have a check engine light on, then the following might be a possibility
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this…
Been two days, no response from the OP.
Another one and done?
I have wondered about the emission system. Check engine light does not come on. This does not happen every time i start the engine, also intermittent rough starts. Then…smooth starts in the mix.
Welcome back.
Can you respond to the other questions asked?
In addition to answering the other questions, I’ll ask how old you spark plugs are.
And I’ll suggest that you try priming up your fuel lines for a while on each restart. To do that, turn the key to the “run” position - the spot where all of the dash lights come on - but not all the way to start where it cranks the engine over. Wait a couple of seconds and turn it back off. Back to run. Off. Back to run. Off. Do that about 4-5 times, and then crank it up. If these symptoms disappear, have a shop check out your fuel pump.
It could be problematic emissions system vent or purge valve.
The crankshaft position sensor may be starting to fail.
