If the floor mat is not covering the pedal when this happens, then you probably need a accelerator pedal position sensor (APP). The sensor is supposed to monitor the throttle pedal position and send signals to open the throttle body.
Is the check engine light on? Any stored diagnostic codes for the pedal position sensor or throttle body?
