My car has rust underneath it all over it needs a power-steering but the mechanic said it can’t be fixed because the rust is this true?
Now how would anyone know the answer that can’t see the vehicle in person ? Get a second opinion but I think the mechanic is doing you a favor . If the rust is bad enough that a mechanic does not want to work on it then this vehicle has reached the end of use period.

Pretty much anything can be repaired if you have a limitless wallet, but on a cost-effective basis, it could very well be true. The shop mechanic may fear a legal exposure if they work on the car, then later there’s a major structural failure due to the rust that causes a crash. Suggest to ask another shop for an assessment before deciding your path forward.
I said basically the same thing 5 hours ago .
