The truck’s system will, without warning, shut down and low oil pressure light comes on locking power steering. This usually happens while making a slow turn. The Ford dealership replaced the oil sending unit and still happens. No codes can be found.
One thing to have checked out is the power steering pressure sensor. When the steering wheel is turned, the hydraulic pressure in the power steering system increases. This sensor detects the increase in pressure and then sends a signal to the engine management computer. The computer then commands the Idle Air Control motor to bump up the idle speed to compensate for the extra load the power steering system is putting on the engine.
If for some reason there’s no signal from this sensor, the computer fails to command the idle speed to be increased, and this will cause the engine to stall.
