My daughter recently bought a 2004 chevy malibu. she had it checked by a mechanic, who said it was a decent car for the price. the turn signal does not work when she has the brake on. any ideas?
Could be as simple as a burned out light bulb. Check the bulbs first. Some of these cars had some issues with melted sockets due to heat from the bulbs. If it isn’t a bulb then perhaps a bad socket or a problem in a grounding wire.
Shouldn’t be a major issue.
Check the multifunction switch (turn signal, cruise, wipers, etc) also. Spray some CRC Contact cleaner into the base of the switch (at the steering column) while working the switch to clean the contacts. GM had some issue with these in the early 2000’s, google GM multifunction switch for more info.
Personally I hope it’s a bulb, replacing the multifunction switch is labor intensive.
My guess is it is a burned out light.
the turn signal does not work when she has the brake on.
Do you mean both the right and the left or just one?
Good Luck
It’s only one signal; I think the left, and it only happens when she has the brake on.
