1999 Ford Econoline Van

I have a stumper! My company owns a 1999 Ford Econoline Van. When the van gets up to about 50 mph and you try to pass someone, it seems like the van just stops, like the transmission goes into neutral. We brought it to a transmission company and they said we needed a new transmission. We had the new one installed and guess what, the van is still doing the same exact thing. Any ideas?

Thanks

Diane

When was the fuel filter or fuel pump last changed, if ever? That would be where I would start.

She said the transmission shifted into neutral and the engine kept running or at least that’s what I interpret what she said.

Which means it’s getting plenty of fuel/spark.

Diane, please confirm?

I took it as the transmission SEEMS to shift into neutral, not that it actually is.

it seems like the van just stops, like the transmission goes into neutral.

That quote would tend to make me think the same as Iprocter. Since the transmission would not be my first guess based on the facts as I understand them, I would also suggest a fuel pump or at least fuel supply problem.

The transmission shop appears to have failed in the honesty department.

I would take it back to the tranny shop and dump it their lap for being the theives they were. Put the ball in their court.

Clarify actually jumps into neutral or engine revs high, but no trans engagement appears to be happening.

Does the engine die? If so, fuel pump or fuel filter could be the culprit. No answers, just more questions.
