1997 Mitsubishi Galant

Hi! I am in a big jam:( Checking the fluids this morning and noticed that one of the belts is off. Honestly my transmission was acting up for nearly two month, the car was sluggish. Mechanic asked me not to spend any money on the transmission as my car is nearly 14 years old. I am freaking out as the car runs and I drive it to work everyday. What next? Please respond. Thanks

Missing a belt has nothing to do with whether or not your transmission is “acting up.” Its also the case that a “sluggish” car is not necessarily a transmission issue, nor does it have anything to do with your belt being off.

Basically, you need to get the belt back on & figure out why it was off. (Just old & broken/stretched? Pulley alignment problem?) Knowing nothing about your mechanical abilities I can’t tell you whether to get a belt on it and drive it to a mechanic, or just have it towed to a mechanic. You won’t get very far without the belt on it.

Thanks

The missing belt was the air conditioner.

The broken belt belonged to the A/C
