I have a 1993 Subaru Impreza and the hatchback/trunk is no longer opening.
It was working fine one day, and then the next day it just wouldn’t open.
It doesn’t feel broken, the handle seems fine…it just won’t open anymore.
Any advice on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Don’t know if it’s the same but had that problem on '97 legacy wagon. The latch on the hatch that opened the hatch would get stuck in the open possision and the hatch would not unlock. Try moving the latch to the closed possision and then unlocking. If it’s not locked, maybe just closing the latch a few times may help.

I got it!
I figured out how to take off the inside trim and that exposed the hatchback/trunk mechanism.
The linkage had come apart…thats all. I reconnected it and everything works fine again.
