well i dont have a timing light but i used a screw driver and there was a pretty good orange spark, in daylight.
If you have a test light you might ground the clip and probe the orange/blue wire end while the key is in the RUN position. If you hear the relay click and the vehicle runs fine with no problem then that could point to a problem with the ECM, fault in the PIP signal provided to the ECM by the ign. module, etc.
Going deeper than that will require a good troubleshooting manual and a VOM.
Ford uses a special tool called a Breakout Box to test much of this but that’s kind of a pricy widget for the DIYer.
yea i did that the relay cicked and the fuel pump stayed running even when the motor stalled. im wondering if the rear in tank pump goes bad will it affect the whole fuel system, or will the van run on the front tank only?
well i got the the old bird running. it turns out that there is 3 fuel pumps on this van and the 2 in tank pumps went bad. replaced the front tank pump and she is running like new again.
