When I first start my car (manual 1998 Maxima) and back out of my carport, I have to cut my wheels pretty sharply as I apply the brakes, and there is a “whummmm” noise that is coming from the rear, I think. I have had the calipers replaced, and new pads and rotors. What is this “whummmm”?
Most likely it is your ABS kicking in for a second or two. If you brake during a turn, the outer wheel is turning faster than the inner wheel. This situation can set off the ABS.
It is completely harmless. If my guess is correct (no guarantees) you can ignore the situation.
Thanks for your response. That sounds right to me.
