Wheeler Dealers car show

Not for the Datsun 240 Z, though. They don’t make 'em.

edit - the Z store does have cams for about $270, so yes, they paid a lot. But it was neat seeing the regrind process.

That amc would be ugly, even with perfect factory paint

@galant, I’ll check out YouTube this weekend and view a couple of episodes. I’m surprised the show was never carried in this area but it sounds like it’s more realistic than others.

Either some of the buyers of these cars on some shows are staged or they’re light years beyond stupid.

My wife likes the “Counting Cars” show but it makes me want to upchuck. An elderly couple comes all the way to Vegas from New England and gives 40 grand for a ho-hum mid 60s pickup with no A/C in the summer; and they’re allegedly going to drive it back…???.

WD is on the Velocity channel, owned by Discovery,

IIRC, they dumped the body of the original Bronco because it was so badly rusted. It seems to me that they recognized the issue too late (after they bought the truck), and did what they could to recover at the lowest expense.

They did a couple of cars with similar problems in GB. There was a Morgan that needed a new wooden frame, and a Jensen that needed a new tubular frame. As it turned out, they were both available. It was quite expensive (lots of work) to lift the bodies off and strip the frames, but that work had several good lessons for anyone undertaking similar restorations. One of the things I like about the shows is that they show problems, even big ones, they come up against and how they deal with them.

the TVR Cerbera needed a new chassis. Not the Jensen interceptor. The Morgan had a galvanized steel frame with lots of wooden bits. The seller of the cobra kit car said it had a 383 stroker but than later Ed said it had the venerable Chevy 5.7 liter motor. Guess editor missed that. The last season with the 1910? Cadillac was stupid. Buying a 2nd car for the motor so they ended up having +100k$ into project was silly. I watched that show and scratched my head. Wow. How far they had strayed from season 1-2.

Thanks for the reminder. No wonder I couldn’t remember the Jensen model!

And all this time I thought making an AMC Pacer uglier was impossible.

I will admit that the Bronco came out awesome in the end.

@galant, I watched a couple of WD episodes on YouTube this weekend and thought it was very good. The shows were the ones about the Jensen Interceptor and the 1960 VW Beetle. None of that embarassing manufactured drama and everything was more based in reality.

The mechanic is pretty sharp and the car buyer/seller also seems to know his way around mechanical things.

One of the first things he did when buying the VW was to raise the lid, grasp the crank pulley, and attempt to move it back and forth. Obviously he knows this is the first step when buying an air-cooled VW.

Too much end play (as that one had) means the engine needs to be replaced or rebuilt. Same goes for an air-cooled that has multiple oil leaks; an overhaul is due.
