Two weeks later we get a political rant and this:
Nope. Tire makers have added chips to some tires for inventory control and commercial tire monitoring and development. No “must have” about it, nothing to do with ATMs, etc.
Oh, let’s not forget these strips so the gubber-mint could track your money going to drug dealers. (Sarcasm)
IMO you can buy a Toyota if you want.
Some people hold grudges for their entire lives. I used to work with a Jewish man, born in the US in the 1950s, and he hated all non-Jewish Germans so much that he wanted them all dead.
One of my fraternity brothers in the early 1970s lived in Brooklyn, NY. His father owned three car dealerships including a VW store. His Buick dealership used his last name but he wouldn’t use his name on the VW dealership because he feared the large Jewish population would cause so much trouble that he would have to shut it down or sell it.
Understandable, given the Holocaust.
I am not a fan of cheap Wal-Mart tires and the like. I deal in IT and computers are the same way. The big brands make a cheapo line just for Wal-Mart that is NOT the same as you can buy elsewhere. Apple is the only big computer company that doesn’t prostitute themselves out to Wal-Mart from what I can tell.
I once bought a used car that came with Douglas. I was unaware they came from Wal-Mart until I had not one but two close calls with them. All were replaced after the second time as I knew it wasn’t a fluke. The tire shop said the best thing I could do was put anything but Douglas back on the car.
For mid-priced tires I have had good luck with the Kuhmo Solus and General Altimax lines. Another to look into is a Falken Sincera which is what I am currently running. A couple of my trucks are running their AT tires which are great if not a tad noisy at certain speeds.
I can understand not wanting to spend the bucks for Michelin but I feel going cheap is worse. Personally I think some of those cheap tires shouldn’t be allowed for highway use. Mini tricks, ATVs, etc. are fine but not for high speed travel.
And, some people rationalize their decision-making, based on flimsy precepts. One of my late friends used to talk about wanting to buy a BMW 3-series. In light of her opposition to buying a Mercedes-Benz because of the company’s actions (and inactions) during the Nazi era, I was fascinated when she said that “BMW wasn’t as bad during the Nazi era”. That claim wasn’t really accurate, but because she coveted a BMW, that desire made those cars more desirable than a Mercedes-Benz.
Well I think it/is easy for us to say when we have not been personally affected. If you had your family killed it may not be so easy. My wife’s relatives in Norway were a little put off when they found out she now had a German last name. Some folks are still upset about the civil war. I myself would not have considered a mitsibushi car. Until they came clean about the war. At some point though forgiveness has to displace the Vengeance so we can move on.
Over the last 35 years/numerous vehicles/don’t know how may millions of miles I bought tires at walmart (not a fan of walmart but its batteries are the best, just o be fair), and never had any problems. In fact, the only two problems I ever had with tires were dunlop and general that I did NOT buy from walmart.
Maybe a little on the pricey side, but I’ve had good luck with Pirelli P7 All Season Plus.
