What is this squealing sound?

Car has been doing this quietly for a couple of weeks and it just got much louder and more constant. Any idea what’s causing this sound?

My best guess is that the bearings in one of the belt pulleys are going dry. While this is not an emergency situation, I suggest that you have your mechanic check the situation when it is convenient for you.

If the bearings seize-up, you may wind up having to replace the belt also, so sooner is better than later.
How old is this Kia?

Thanks. It’s a 2006 Sedona. I just noticed the noise seems to have mostly subsided since it’s been running/warmed up.

Turns out it was a failed tensioner on the timing belt.
