My guess would be a tracker in case you miss a payment, or an add on remote. The pros here will know.

Bing beat me to it.
If the OP bought his vehicle from a buy here/pay here used car dealership, it is likely that they installed a tracking device.

Another guess, an ultrasonic sensor could be used to measure the distance from your car to something you don’t want to hit, to help avoid backing into a telephone pole for example. I think some new cars are equipped w/ that type of sensor, as part of the backup camera function.

Yes, but I seriously doubt if that type of sensor would be installed in the headliner area of the car’s interior.

If you can unplug it or part of it, pull it’s fuse etc, then if it is important, they will let you know real quick… lol

Or just call the place you got it vehicle from and ask them…

Remote start?..

Can you take a better picture of the righting on it???..

Yeah I couldn’t read the name on it or model but if you just google or bing that info, it should become clear. Definitely not a factory install.

Looks like a GPS tracking device for fleet vehicles. Tracking/disabling devices for financed vehicles are concealed under a dash panel.

When I purchased my Corolla new, it came with an electronic gadget under the dashboard that the dealership installed, security gadget designed to prevent the car from being started and driven off the lot by a thief. I guess new cars being stolen from dealership lots is a common problem dealerships have to guard against. The car sales-folks knew how to defeat it for test drives I presume. It later caused me some grief when it broke and I could no longer start the engine.

A year or so ago I read there was a dealer fuse somewhere that prevented cars being started. I think the tale involved a new lot jockey that didn’t know about it. I’ve never seen any information on it so maybe a dealer secret. Put the fuse in or flip the switch. Saves the battery too.

So i’ve forgot to mention that this car was bought off from a taxi driver so maybe it has something to do with it ?

I will take another photo of it in the morning .

The sensor might also be a bot detector.

More photos of the sensor and some led.

So it’s out in the open attached to the windshield? There’s a stray light in plain sight coming out of a vent?

Sounds like it is related to the former taxi service.

It says “Trackpro Ultrasonic Sensor” and I found nothing while Googling it. But from its looks I’m guessing it a video camera security system that images the driver and the passengers. The little light on the dash provide a notification that it is in use and it might even steam the video live when in use for added security and notifying any potential robbers that they are being watched by video’d by personnel outside the taxi…

Some car alarms use ultrasonic sensors to detect if someone opens the door and/or enters the car.

It might be this fleet management system.

Ask a cab driver… lol

For heavens sake, its got the name right on it. Google it!!!

I did and there’s nothing obvious. The link I posted seems close, but there are no pictures of the device.
