Welcome to the New Car Talk Community!

Got it. Thanks for your help.

A “Cancel” button would be nice. Really, this product is a piece of poo.

I’m sure I’ll get used to it. But I hate the way it doesn’t show in a tree like before. It’s nice that it shows more comments per page, and the response time is better, though it’s also harder to read. I also had to turn off my ad blocker as it was throwing tons of errors.

FYI, the search function is now live. You’ll find it on the right-hand side of the screen, underneath the Bookmarked Discussions box, which itself is underneath the Car Talk Tool Box. Any problems? Let us know. I’ll pop back up when I know more.

PS: oldschool, I’ll pass on your observation, and I see what you’re saying.

Ew…I’m not liking this. The SUBJECT post needs to stand out a bit more like in the old days. Everything just blends in now. Did we all lose our standings as well? I see I have ZERO posts and visits when we know that is certainly not an accurate barometer of how many questions I and we have answered. This new format looks super generic…No?

Did the rest of you guys lose your posts and comment counts? Honda, when I looked into your profile, I saw you had five discussions you’d started and 670 comments, the vast majority of which predate the new system.

You can canel any comment simply by not posting it. You can refresh the page (F5), return to the topic listing, up to you. Almost anything except hitting the “Post Comment” button is the same as a cancel.

Give this one a chance, and give them a chance to sort it out. It’ll get better.

IMHO both phpBB and SMF are superior, but I’m not running this forum, and I’m quite happy that this free, apparently very widely used service is sitting out there for us to use to help each other and others.

Or they could just put in a Cancel button.

“It’ll get better.” In the sense of “nowhere to go but up”, yes.

Sorry to be so negative, but a lot of things that should have happened before this go-live didn’t.

I like the new forum. It’s far easier to scroll through posts, much like the old forum was. I never really was crazy about the version that you just superceded.

It isn’t perfect, but it sure is nice.

And I reiterate what Chassos said: it’s great to have this free venue for people to get help and for us broken down old guys to hang out in.

Overall fine with me. I did notice the text in the “Submit a Car Question” button is almost illegible, about zero contrast.

The option to show posts that have been read is on the wrong page. If you go back to Topic Index, and then click on options in the Repair and Maintenance catagory, one option is Mark Read. That option should be on this page.

Overall I say a workable inital piece of work. My last school “project” and then the semester is over is a 4 page website using Javascript and jQuerry. I know the trouble I am having (but I had a breakthrough today) so I certainly can imagine the stress level when you want to be up and running while you work the bugs out.

RE: the submit a question button - mine is a bright red button with white text. Its pretty hard to miss. I’d guess that this is another browser variation. (I’m usually in Firefox).

Can’t flag posts?

Now’s the time for off-color humor and some category 5 flames!

@cdaquila, you are certainly an active cyberbabe, um, I mean Czarina. I take back half the bad things I said about you! Keep up the good work!

Yeah, button color must be browser-related, I’m on IE9. And sorry, jts, they added ‘Report’ button now, you’re out of luck!

But the “report” link isn’t nearly as much fun as the little red flag was.

I never found any reason to use that little red flag, perhaps I have missed some fun

Could someone clue me into how to post a picture or diagram? There used to be an “attachement” button. Now there is none but I see people are posting pictures. Are the people posting pictures hosting them? I wanted to post a diagram but i am not hosting it. I can’t copy/past a pic. into a post.

So… how to?

You have to embed pictures, using the HTML code provided when you store a picture on a site like photobucket.com. There are other free picture hosting sites too.
