Gentlemen; I brought my 2007 Camry in March of 2007. About 2 weeks ago I developed (what sounds to me )a valve tap. I brought my car to the Toyota dealer for them to repair it. I got this answer…The dealer’s mechanic called out to the California Toyota engineers who said the noise was an ‘acceptable engine noise’ that happens only in certain areas of the country, depending on the change in weather. My dealer’s service manager explained to me how because of the close tolerances in these new engines noises occur; he said it wasn’t a valve tap but that the noise was occuring in the piston cyclinder, like a piston slapping. I’ve worked on car engines in my younger days and this noise sure sounds like a valve tap to me. He also said it will occur with the drop in tempertures, as in my case. Why is this an acceptable noise? Why won’t they fix it? Do you think this is "normal and acceptable’ in a new car?
I guess I would ask him to show me on a new car on his lot that it is normal.
If it was so normal why did they: "The dealer’s mechanic called out to the California Toyota engineers who said the noise was … " If it was normal and clearly you are in the same area of the country, need to call the tech center?
Did the dealership also mention the engine troubles with the V 6’s?? I’d think seriously of getting
another opinion.
If it’s a steady light tapping, it might just be the fuel injectors working. They are audible. Sure sounds like quite a story you were told. I don’t know about the trueness of the facts here. If you can hear it inside the car; some vent settings ahh heck I don’t know.
