I recently purchased a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Occasionally, when I go to keelessly unlock it the horn beeps very loudly as if the alarm was about to go off, but doesn’t. This doesn’t not happen every time I unlock it and there doesn’t seem to be a pattern to when it decides to honk or not. It also doesn’t have to do with my proximity to the car. It will do it from far away and up close. It’s startling to say the least and I’d like to be able to get into my Jeep without scaring myself and half of the neighborhood. Any idea what I should look into to fix this because I can’t recreate it at the dealer for them to fix.
If the keyfob has a panic button on it then maybe that is what is causing the horn to go off. If that is so the problem could be the with the fob or in the receiver. If you have another fob swap the two and see if that helps. If that doesn’t help then the trouble may be inside the receiver.
