Transmission fluid leak

Hello Car Talkers,



I have a A/T 1999 New Beetle with 160K miles. Recently, I have

had a transmission problem: when cool, the car would not shift or stay in gear.



I had the transmission serviced-- my mechanic replaced the gasket and fluid. The car shifts almost perfectly now when cool, but the transmission fluid still leaks a bit.



What may be the problem?

Where exactly is it leaking from??

Now the undercarriage is dry and there is no fluid on the ground! Car seems to be shifting ok still, too.

I went on a vacation a week after the fix until a couple of days ago. Until that time, there was a leak. Even more puzzled.
