Transmission Disengages Completely

I’m wondering if the OP is one of those people who keep their hand on the shift knob, even when they are not shifting gears.

Yep that is the mystery. Until this whole issue is cleared up, I don’t think anyone can help.

Correct, I dont like “popping out”. There is no shifting to another gear possible. None work during the episode. And since it occurs only every several hundred miles it doesnt surprise me my mechanic drove it and couldnt duplicate the problem.

My idea is let AAMCO scan it. Transmission specialists may have some ideas. I mean who’s in a better position to have seen this before.

Idea: if AAMCO is a chain then they should be able to put out this problem on their network for all to see. Its like a rare disease. You need a thousand doctors to get an answer. It might not be an Audi problem. More generic just to transmissions. And some of you believe its a motor problem.

The bottom line is, whoever I hire to do whatever, I need a guarantee their solution works. If I cant then that will tell me something.

For Pete’s Sake that is a terrible idea . As I said before at least talk to your local dealer . Have you not searched several Audi Forums ?

I’m on two Audi forums. On one there’s 50 views, no reply yet. The other 75 views, no reply. Note these are not mechanics sites. They’re consumers. The one mechanics site I found disallows the public.

Re: local Audi dealer… I suppose I can.

I got the only scan at my European car mechanic. He installed the new clutch, in 2018. He is usually very good. But this time I got a response like a dial tone.

Who’s in a better position?
An INDEPENDENT transmission shop.
The thought that the charlatans at AAMCO are “transmission specialists” is… laughable.

Really? Thats good to know. Insider info.

Apparently all auto chains are bad. As I’m reading.

And what about dealers - not exactly perfect reputations…

Would you let your dentist perform hernia surgery? Nothing to be gained here. Over and out.
