Timing belt

do a 2001-honda accord,3.0 liter v6,have a timing belt or chain.

belt…check gates belts

Timing belt and its expensive to change out. V6 Honda means timing belt even on the newest ones.

Belt, and yours is WAY overdue for replacement.

Yup. That belt is about 2 years overdue for replacement.
If you don’t believe mcparadise and me, take a look at the Honda maintenance schedule that is likely contained in your Owner’s Manual.

You should do the following:

Immediately have the timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, and all belt tensioners replaced.
Likely cost…$600-$800, depending on where it is replaced.

OR

Budget about $2,000 for engine repairs that will be necessitated when the belt snaps without warning. The cost of engine repairs is over and above the cost of the timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, and belt tensioners that will still need to be done in addition to internal engine repairs.
Likely total bill=$2,600-$2,800.

Your choice.
