Timing belt replacement cost

My Toyota dealer wants $800 to replace the timing belt on my 2004 Highlander. That sounds out of line to me. Help.

Call a few independent shops to cross check with. Then go from there.

If that includes the water pump and associated pulleys/tensioners (if necessary) it is within reason.

Might be a bit on the high side, but not outrageous if they include water pump, and all the other goodies.

For that much get a new water pump and all the belts and a new thermostat. And you are still getting robbed. But do it anyway.
