I own a 2000 Audi A6 with front wheel drive. When I accelerate briskly from a stand still, I hear a loud THUMP that seems to be coming from the front of the car. After the initial thump, the car drives smoothly without further drama. When I accelerate slowly, I don’t hear a noise. If I am moving and accelerate hard, I don’t hear any noises. What can be the cause of this thumping noise?

Possibly a loose or broken motor mount or transaxle mount.
