This may be a new world record

… unfortunately.

It’s unfortunate so many people were hurt

But I’d say he’s NOT being overcharged

Ironically, within the past couple of weeks, two recent fatal accidents took place only a block or so from the intersection where this knucklehead pulled this stunt. This could easily have turned into the third fatal accident. I drive through that area every Sunday, and I think I’ll take a different route for awhile. Too much bad karma on that stretch of US Route 1.

If one intersection is having an abnormal amount of accidents, then maybe a highway engineer should look into why. Of course my mind goes to a red light camera installed and the yellow light shortened to to increase the number of tickets issued.

Another entitled pickup operator.

In many cases, it may be due to bad highway design, but not in this case. The two previous accidents were essentially identical, namely young women who rear-ended tractor trailers and weren’t wearing seatbelts. They were just as stupid as this jerk in the pickup truck, but they weren’t as reckless–even though they wound up dead.

Red lights cameras work. I got one once. Never since. After that one I stopped trying to gun it. Frankly they should be out everywhere.

How would a red light camera prevent the original crime?
From the article:
“Authorities allege that the driver was fleeing the scene of a crime at the time of the crash”.
Somehow, I don’t think someone fleeing LEOs after committing a crime would think “gee, red light camera, I had better stop”.
Road design? Same thing! Road near me was recently redone, added grass islands, do you think that will encourage people to walk twenty feet to a controlled crosswalk, or will they continue to jaywalk, at night, in dark clothing?

It appears that the felon driving the truck had just visited another teen in an upscale condo community in order to threaten/bully him. If he thinks that he can get away with that type of behavior, why would he be worried about a red light camera?

Because he drove across very busy US Route-1–on a red light, at high speed–it’s very possible that he never even noticed the red light as he made his getaway.

You definitely have a strange way of looking at things, imo

I don’t see this as “another entitled pickup operator”

I see this guy as a criminal

What he’s driving doesn’t matter for me

That makes no sense . If the idiot and his moron friends had been driving a minivan would they still be entitled ? How about just plain stupid ?

No!
If they had been in a minivan or a sedan, they would automatically earn dual endorsements as gentlemen and scholars–no matter the criminal acts in which they were involved.

Weren’t you aware of this “fact”?

I personally see, both online and out driving, the nonsense pickup truck drivers try to pull out there.

Apologies if I inadvertently lumped you two in that segment.

The guy’s a CRIMINAL

Thats what I’m choosing to focus on

You seem to have chosen to focus on what type of vehicle he was driving

Whether you choose to believe it or not, there are, to varying degrees, correlations between types/makes of vehicles and behavior of their drivers.

Why do you think there are so many jokes about “BMWs with defective turn signals”?

In my part of the states, pickup drivers seem to have an even lower rate of turn indicator usage than drivers of other vehicles.
