For the last day, our 2018 CR-V is cycling through all the error messages, telling us that every system is not working. It drives fine.
The last time this happened was right after an oil change, and just driving for a few minutes, it all cleared up.
This time though, all the errors are persisting. I don’t think anything is actually wrong with the car itself, certainly not every system going bad all at the same time.
Any ideas on how to reset all these errors? We’ve stopped and started the car several times now, but that’s not helping.
If you take it to a repair shop, keep this information to yourself. They won’t believe you, especially if you tell them you got advice on the internet. Instead, ask them to troubleshoot the problem and report back before doing anything. If they tell you that you need a new BCM, then you have corroboration for @Tester. If they tell you something else, then ask for further explanation. If you want help understanding their diagnosis, post back. Get the diagnosis in writing for future reference. BTW, I ester is an auto tech and you can trust his suggestions.
There can be between 5 and 10 systems unavailable when the check engine light is on, you only have two that are indicating a support system malfunction.
Start diagnosing the problem by reviewing the engine system faults. Any engine system fault can disabled ABS and brake hold systems.
UPDATE: The battery that was replaced last August was a smaller battery. We were told that it would be OK, and sure enough it was fine for many months.
Could this be the culprit? According to my mechanic, installing the proper battery should fix the problem. He recommended this at the last oil change in March.
Are the system faults listed on your invoice? Is the check engine fault caused by low system voltage? Without reviewing the system faults, you are guessing as to what the problem might be.
Given how many things are electrical now… power steering for one… if the battery is undersize or weak, the power steering can draw so much power other systems can reset when the voltage drops.
It IS a stretch that the battery is causing the problems, but there should never be an undersize battery installed.
