I have a 1995 Montero that has a somewhat loud rattling or knocking sound coming from the rear suspension area when going over bumps. There are new shocks on the vehicle, and the coil springs look good. Does anybody know what the noise could be?
Check the bushings. Possibly one or more is worn out and loose. Also, check the sway bar links. These bushings also get loose and rattle. Another thought is to check everything attached underneath. Look for and shake the exhaust pipes and muffler, and especially the spare tire, if it is located underneath in the back.
