Hi everyone, my A/C line just blew and frayed. I was told I need a new line. He said I could order the parts myself cheaper (a family friend who owns a shop) and he can fix it. He said something about ordering two lines: a suction and a discharge line. I just want to make sure I order the right thing and am not over paying somewhere. Any suggestions on where to order?
You could just have the shop order the part and that way if it’s not the right hose or doesn’t fit right or leaks, it’s the shop’s problem and not yours. Save yourself some headaches.
If your friend is trying to help you save money he could order the correct parts and sell them to you at his cost. Whether he does that or allows you to bring your own parts he’s giving away money just the same.
Another one for just let your “friend” do a turn key job, if going to a local parts store, he can even get it at his cost and charge you normal store retail and still make a few dollars anyway (which he should) or even mark it up 10-20% over retail to help him out, call it a thank you tip… If he is already putting you in front of regular customers then he is already doing you a solid… my 2 cents worth anyway…
I have seen and replaced tons of green O-rings for R12 and R134A automotive systems and still have my old container with many different sized A/C hose etc O-rings…
Since you also mentioned nylog sealant, are you thinking about household HVAC and or refrigerators??
It depends who you are dealing with. My cousin restored Porsches with a partner, and they sold cars east of the Mississippi. They worked neat Pittsburgh, PA. I’d let someone like him loose on my car. For the regular schmoes, I agree with you. I’m sure your family is more than happy to have your services if you offer them.
Air conditioning lines have been made of aluminum for the last 30 years with O-rings included.
Rock Auto has pictures of A/C lines for 2006 Subaru, incudes O-rings.
Guess some of us mechanics that do a lot of engine work and have to move a/c lines out of the way etc etc and don’t like comebacks, use new o-rings so we don’t have leaks after the fact… but what do I know… lol
