I have a 2005 PT Cruiser convertible. 3 times now ghetto accelerator has stuck down. The engine light comes on and after stomping on the pedal and releasing it, the car does not want to accelerate and sitters as if it will cut out. After about a minute everything clears up and works normally. I have taken the car into 3 repair shops including the dealership and they cannot recreate the problem and can’t help me.
Have the throttle assembly taken apart and cleaned by a professional. That MIGHT fix it.
Throttle cable checked. It’s in good condition.
You need the error code(s) that are getting stored when the engine light comes on. Get them and post them - format “P1234”
Many auto parts stores will read these for free. Sometimes the light still has to be on for the AP stores to read them. If the light is off you need access to a code reader that pulls “history” codes.
So I can call auto parts stores and see if they have code readers?
I didn’t say “throttle cable,” I said “throttle assembly.” They aren’t the same thing.
Ok.
