Stop the Stink!

Same thing happened to me. Purchase cat litter and pour it onto the carpet and let it sit for a couple of days. Vaccum it up and see if you still have an odor. If you do repeat until smell is gone. Did mine car a couple of days but kept leaving a little longer each time I leaned up the litter and still smelled the odor. You can use cat litter for lots of smelly cleanups. I also used it when my freezer was without electricity when we had the storm “Opal” come through. Was without electricity for days and my freezer thawed out and nothing smells worse than rotten meats. Put cat litter in closed the top and left it for a week. When I cleaned it up and still had a smell, repeated with new litter each time. I was able to use the freezer without getting rid of it. Took about 4 times but it works.I used the cheapest brand I could find. It works!

Hey, it appears as if you’ve got the problem licked with “Nature’s Miracle” but another solution you might try, which is miraculous in removing skunk odor, is to mix one quart of hydrogen peroxide (available over the counter in drug stores) with 1/4 cup of baking soda. It just bubbles away the most noxious odors!

I have a 2004 Ford Focus wagon. My son dumped an entire glass of chocolate milk down the back seat. After wet vaccuming till the cows came home, the smell was still there. I had to pull up the floor carpeting. Because this floor covering just snaps in, the milk had ran underneath and gathered in a low spot between the covering and the car’s metal floor. After that was cleaned, the smell was gone.

Another product I have used for 25 years that simply removes organic odors is sold by:

My wife left a 1/2 gal in the back of her new Pathfinder in 2000. 2 days later it popped. After trying all of the chemicals, nothing got out the smell. So I took everything out that may have gotten milk on it and bagged or wraped in plastic and put it in the sun. At the end of the day, I smelled in all of the bags and what stunk got thrown away. Then I checked with a local salvage yard, I was in luck, they had all the parts I needed at a large discount over dealer prices.

I’VE HAD GREAT SUCCESS WITH FIRE. I POUR A GALLON OF GASOLINE LIBERALLY OVER THE SEAT CUSHIONS, THEN SET IT ABLAZE.

BY THE TIME YOU ARE FINISHED SERVING YOUR STRETCH, EVEN THE SMELL OF ASH IS GONE.

My husand and I celebrated our 20th anniversary by heading to Charleston SC for a week on the beach. We rented a car from Avis at the airport. Since we were going to be staying in a condo we stopped at a grocery store and picked up a few essentials…milk, bread, marachino cherries. We bagged up our groceries, put them on the back seat and headed out of the parking lot. It was late, it was dark, hubby didn’t see the turn until it was almost too late. He turned sharp and the groceries went flying…including the milk which landed on its top and proceed to pour out. We bought lots of paper towels and some Fabreeze but obviously those are like fighting a fire with a squirt gun. The rest of the week we drove around South Carolina’s heat with an ever increasingly smell of sour milk in the car.

We worried about returning the car. How much would they charge us to clean that smell up? We drove the 45 minute trip to the airport with the windows open, emptied the rest of the Febreeze into the car, and handed the guy the keys as soon as we entered Avis’ parking lot. He handed us our receipt without even looking at the car. We got outta there fast and never looked back.

My advice is drive with the windows open all the time. Have a bottle of Fabreeze set up like an IV drip.

when this happened to me, in a new olds, my mother suggested kittylitter and let it sit there for a couple of weeks , vacuum and if there is still a little smell left redo and guess what it worked

Put a shallow dish of vinegar in the car and leave it overnight. Repeat until the smell is gone. Be sure to take it out or cover it when you drive or it will spill.

I really think this is a new approach. Back in the '80s I had a Citation (Don’t laugh, guys; it was a pretty good car!) My son had opened a bottle of milk and spilled it all over himself and the door panels and down into the floor well. I sopped it up and tried to scrub it, to no avail. Each time the car sat with the windows closed, I would open the door to drive it and almost succomb to the stench. One Saturday I scrubbed again and left the windows open. Sunday morning as I was leaving for church in my wife’s car, I notice “activity” near the citation and found a line of ants going up the wheel and into the hatchback (open). My first thought was to close up the car, but I didn’t do it. It was open overnight (who would steal a Citation full of ants and smelled like spoiled milk?

Monday morning I drove the car to work. Ants gone; not a whiff of milk ever again!

I once spilled milk in my car, too. I took the flooring out (carpet and jute), took it to a car wash and layed it on the floor upside down (jute up). I then used the wand on it first soaking it with super soap, then washing it with soap under pressure, followed by a thorough rinse. Soak the jute real good, then flip it over (be careful here as the carpet is now quite heavy) and do the same with the carpet side. Take it home and let it sit in the sun until dry. Once dry, spray it, liberally with Febreeze (or something equivalent) allowing it to dry again before re-installing it. While the carpet is out of the car, you’ll need to actually wash the metal flooring in the area of the spill. Good Luck !!!

I didn’t read all the posts, but of those I did read, nobody mentioned our old friend Charcoal. About 18 years ago I bought a freezer used from a guy that lived near Lake Michigan. The freezer was very cheap, and I bought it right away. When I got it home, I opened it up and made a rude discovery. This guy went to the lake regularly and fished, then threw his catch into the freezer. The result was a smelly freezer, good for nothing except the fish he caught. He thought he found a sucker, but in the end, he was the sucker. I took charcoal and filled three or four plastic bowls and placed them in the freezer. It only took one application. The fishy smell was gone within a week. I recommend taking a couple of mesh bags and filling them up with charcoal, then placing them in strategic spots and leaving them for a while. The smell should be gone in a few days.
