And Lastly - the Remote Engine Start! Apparently when you purchase the factory authorized remote engine start components - the included TWO remote engine start transmitters - are ALREADY programmed into the RES Control Module that comes with the kit… So, if I ‘unplugged’ it [which I had been thinking about] - that would not remove the remote engine start stored transmit codes. Because when I ‘upgraded’ and installed the Remote Engine start - the included instructions Never ask to register the two included RES Transmitters; & I didn’t even think about it… The system worked; so hey…
Under Trouble shooting the system - they have the following VOODOO ritual on registering the transmitters. And a bit later they note that if your vehicle is remote starting and you are not pushing any button - on how to get any errant codes out… You do the following ritual 4 times on each transmitter if you have TWO - since it will take EIGHT. When the vehicle only takes four keys - I have zero idea on why the Remote Start can take EIGHT - is what it is… I now only have One remote start transmitter - so I get to do the following Ritual 8 times; and that will remove the stolen transmitter for remote start.
NOTE: Up to eight (8) transmitters can be programmed to the remote engine start system.
Open the driver’s door (the driver’s door must remain open throughout the entire process).
Depress and hold the vehicle’s brake pedal.
Turn the ignition to the “on” then “off”, “on” then “off”, “on” then “off”, then back on and leave on throughout the programming process. (total duration from point of first ignition ON cycle must not exceed five (5) seconds)
The system will flash the side marker lights, tail lights and the front position lights and honk the horn three (3) times, indicating that the system has entered transmitter learn mode.
Press and release the “button“ on the transmitter you wish to program.
The system will flash the side marker lights, tail lights and the front position lights and honk the horn one (1) time, indicating that the system has learned the transmitter. Upon successful programming, the remote start confirming transmitter button will flash one (1) time (within five (5) seconds).
Repeat step five (5) for any additional transmitters (the system will accept up to eight (8) transmitters).
The system will exit transmitter programming mode if the ignition key is turned to the OFF position, the door is closed or after two (2) minutes.
Further down, on discussing removing a RES transmitter:
Another user’s transmitter accidentally programmed to the system and in range of activation.
To correct this situation, the unauthorized transmitter must be deprogrammed from the system. All customer RES transmitters must be available. Following the transmitter programming instructions on page 11 of this guide, when you reach step 5, you will program each transmitter multiple times to fill all 8 memory slots. For
example, if 2 transmitters are available, program each transmitter four (4) times. This will deprogram any unauthorized transmitter.
So that solves all of my theft issues best as can be. If someone else has a Subaru key theft issue come up - these might help. Cheers!
