Steering knocks, only with clutch up

Hi, so I have a Hyundai Santa Fe (2003) with the 2.4L engine (FWD). I can’t quite figure out what the problem could be. When I turn sharply, so say turning out of a parking spot. There is a loud knocking noise coming from the front, seems like every time the wheel turns. It’s quite loud and you can hear it from inside the car.

But this is only with the clutch ‘engaged’. As soon as I press the clutch down the sound disappears. The speed doesn’t matter. So would this be related to the power steering? If so what part? The steering rack?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts!

Worn cv joint would be my first guess. Solved by replacing axle. When you push the clutch in you relieve the tension on the joint.

Turn the wheels all the way to one side and see if you can see the outer CV boot and if it is leaking grease, may have to turn wheel both ways…
Normally it is a hard clicking noise…
