Hey, I have a 2012 ford focus 5 speed manual (not that the transmission matters) and when I got it (used) for some reason when listening to the radio, or with auxillary the speakers make a loud thud and shut off. After I turn the car off and back on they work fine again until they randomly cut out again. Recently the speakers begin to thud loudly and produce a lot of static sounds even when the radio is off and sometimes even when the car is off. I don’t know anything about wiring but was wondering if anyone had some solutions since I can’t seem to drive at all now without having to listen to banging speakers and static regardless of if they are on or not.
Are the speakers stock or aftermarket? If they’re aftermarket I wonder if the previous owner didn’t use an adapter when they installed the new speakers and butchered up the wiring and it’s starting to come loose causing them to cut out and pick up static sounds
If speakers ever get wet they’ll sometimes do that. One of my truck’s speakers got wet a few years ago and has been acting like that ever since. In fact just the other day I tried it , it’s gotten worse, that speaker didn’t work at all now. Had to listen to Bon Jovi’s Dead or Alive on mono-phone.
If it’s not just faulty speakers, either a wiring or ground problem or more likely the radio is faulty. In the meantime, see if you can use the fade control to cut the sound entirely from the aux speakers.
I imagine they’re stock, but there are signs in the rear that show as is if a previous owner tampered with them or installed a sub or something of the like
If you can see the wiring in the trunk, lean in and get a good look at the wires and junctions. If anything doesn’t look right, that could be your problem. You may need to take the speakers out to inspect them.
if prior owner installed sub, problem is likely not in speakers, but rather in that sub connections
personally, I never trust “quick connect” taps installers use to attach aftermarket stereo components, I’m always going for an old fashion soldered connections
in the past, in vehicles I worked on, I’d seen that over time tapped (or even worse, manually twisted) wires can develop an unreliable connections, resulting in old kind of havoc
