Slightly Bigger Tires Okay?

Hello Everyone,

Went to a Discount Tire location today, and the matching tires the online platform said were at the location when I made the appointment were not actually in stock. The guy offered me a different size, and I let him put them on. Did I mess up? P 185/65 is the factory issued size, and these were P 195/60’s (R 15 for old and new, so thankfully no variation there.) I researched a little on my phone before giving the guy the go-ahead and saw that it is considered a standard upgrade for my car (2020 Kia Rio) but now feel a little buyer’s remorse. Are there any concerns?

Thanks,

=MM=

Not a problem. Drive on. 10mm wider, slightly lower profile, the diameter should be very close to your old tires.

If 195/60R15 is a Kia speced up-size, I’m sure it’s fine.

As long is the motivator isn’t appearances. You should see modest gains in acceleration and braking, and slightly more responsive steering.

Larger is a particularly weird term when we talk about tires.

Yes, the 195/'s are wider than the 185’s, but the aspect ratio is lower, so the load carrying capacity is the same. We tire engineers say those are not larger.

Your new tire is only 0.3" shorter overall than the stock tire, resulting in 833 revs/mile, compared to 825 revs/mile stock. A 1% change is not a difference I would worry about.

Depends what brand they are.

Another one for run em, I have done this many times over the years on customer vehicles as well as my own and other family members including my daughter with zero issues… Don’t over think it…
