They go out and I get them a going by pushing in the hazard switch. So what is wrong with it? I drive a 2000 Chevy Malibu six cylinder
My guess is a dirty contact on the turn signal switch.
Does the turn signal stalk have the cruise and wiper switches also (multifunction switch). I started having problems with the multifunction switch on my 2000 Blazer about 3 years ago. Spraying CRC Electrical Contact Cleaner into the base of switch helped for a few days, but I had to replace the switch. The switch is ~$200 and takes a few hours to replace.
As Mr. Meehan suggested, spray contact cleaner into the switch at the base, the control switches on the stalk, and the hazard switch on the steering column. Work the controls to get the cleaner to the contacts inside the switches.
Hopefully the switch just needs a good cleaning.
Good luck,
Ed B.
