I usually skip certain replies, I expect most people do.
That doesn’t do any good for the first time poster that has no idea of who to believe.
Good points. But that seems pretty hard to solve. Hard to say who knows the 100% truth 100% of the time. Maybe J Mario’s idea is a good compromise. Of course who knows will be on the receiving end of something like that?
IMHO, a forum like this works best by posters sticking to using reasoned arguments rather than personal attacks. Think before you post in other words. If your post refers to the poster (like "you don’t … ", or “you shouldn’t …”, in other words if it has the word “you” in it, or implies “you”, then you are not using a reasoned argument.
As an example of what NOT to do, from a post above:
“you shouldn’t do it.” … … not a reasoned argument
Better would be to say “The link says GM recommends to not flush their transmissions, but they never said that”. Or “maybe GM said that at one time, but it no longer applies to GM or any other transmission”. Those are reasoned arguments. May still be disputable, but notice they don’t contain or imply the word “you”, and are not referencing the poster, just the content of the post.
People are asking you to stop with the silly Knucklehead stuff and new posters do not care if you have ’ no experience with the vehicle they have a problem with ’ . They just want an answer that might help them.
Seriously, why do you insist on continuing something that irritates so many other posters?
I think we all . . . including YOU . . . have a pretty good idea who would be on the receiving end of something like that
And we’re all tired of your “knucklehead DIY” comment
It is not funny
AT ALL
It is annoying
And we all know you’re doing it to annoy the heck out of people
Here’s your reward
Get yourself something like Norton. It’ll let you know if it’s safe.
Still waiting for some evidence or proof, a reasoned argument that the professional’s link in question contains misinformation. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that’s not proof. Anybody who has claimed the link’s information is incorrect care to offer up some proof?
Something like Norton will only tell you if it’s a safe site to visit or not.
It won’t help determine if the information on that site is incorrect or irrelevant to the problem being discussed.

but no experience with trans flushes
If that’s the case, how do you know if the article you posted is factual or B.S.?
Tester

how do you know if the article you posted is factual or B.S.?
No idea, just a knucklehead diy’er is all. I have to rely on common-sense judgement about the author’s credentials. If it was written by an insurance company or car company rep, I’d be less inclined to believe it , compared to an experienced r&m shop-owing pro-mechanic who has posted many other articles and podcasts I find interesting and informative about the car repair field.
Now onto motor oil. If I’m in a hot climate should I use 40 weight instead of 20 weight even though the engine temp is the same except for starting ? Just kidding.
Like usual you can just pick the answer you want. I don’t base my actions on an article or opinion or two. I base my actions on what the dealer suggests and the transmission shop owner I have dealt with for over 25 years. Then I have to make my own decision.
I will admit though I have quit putting anti seize on new spark plugs though, but the again I just hire that now so I don’t know what they do.

It won’t help determine if the information on that site is incorrect or irrelevant to the problem being discussed.
I was in a hurry and read it too fast.
There is no way to know if it’s misinformation. I trust the source. It’s like do you believe actual scientists who’ve studied and researched for DECADES and can show actual tests and videos and pics and even show you how to conduct your own test that we live on a globe, or the guy on the internet who barely passed high-school and only learned how to do google last week saying we live on a flat earth?
@George_San_Jose1 by my read what Tester posted above was two articles refuting what was in the article you initially posted.
I think it’s time to hang up the “knucklehead DIYer” thing. And now you’re challenging people in order to defend what you posted, which you acknowledged you were posting based on source and not content. A similar thing is going on in the smoke test/fuel trim discussion. This is going beyond just putting a disclaimer on your posts; you’re digging your heels in and it’s going to start fights. Thanks.
PS. I do want to note that it seems a lot of your posting comes from a place of caring to ensure everyone gets a response, or what have you. You are clearly a longtime Car Talk fan. This feedback comes from a good place.
I called it

He is still sulking over another critiquing and is refusing to stop with his very annoying signature phrase, He is completely oblivious to any critiquing and always trying to turn everything around on you instead of taking any responsibility for his own actions… Another words it is our fault he is like this…
And BTW: We all can not just ignore his post as he has suggested due to the fact that it impacts new posters looking for help and accurate advise, and not wasting their time with someone just looking to have the highest post count on the forum… He has some good sound advise from time to time, but a stopped clock also has correct time twice a day… As many on here have said, the fat to meat ratio is just way off… And then tries to make everyone feel bad about how he does this on a volunteer basis, I got news for him WE ALL DO IT ON A VOLUNETEER BASIS!!!.. … WTH???
And it is funny how many of the regular forum members as well as the Admin/Mod (the Boss) have asked him to Stop and he even tries to turn it around on Mr Carolyn…

omeone just looking to have the highest post count on the forum
hmm … To end this unusual, childish conspiracy theory , the moderators should place my post count total back to zero. No objections at all from me. Might be a good thing to do at the same time my handle is changed.

It’s not a childish conspiracy. The fact that you fill this forum up with endless posts that are either wrong or add no value wastes everyone’s time. That’s the last thing a forum on life support needs.
If you can seriously help to solve a problem, then please contribute.
Else practice muting yourself, just like the rest of us do when we have no value to add to a post.
If the rest of us can do it, you’re expected to as well.
The point still is that some here say to flush and others say no. I can only say what I do in consultation with the dealer and trusted shop.
We’ve had the same discussion about long life anti freeze. I talked to the dealer and trusted shop. Don’t be afraid of dealers. They have a lot of experience with your brand and have answered th3 same question hundreds of times.
Nothing against experienced mechanics that say otherwise but you have to decide for yourself. I have had no adverse effects for years by the way I do it.

+1
When I had my 2005 Accord Honda, recommended drain and fill three times. The reason was that most flush machines used a pump that could damage the internal components of the AT. I had a transmission fluid change at the dealer I bought the car from in 2012 when I had the timing belt replaced and they flushed it. They said that their flush equipment had a lower pressure and wouldn’t damage the transmission. I kept the car another 5 years and it ran flawlessly. When I sold the car to the same dealer in 2017 the used car manager commented on how well the engine and transmission ran for a car with 187,000 miles on it.

The point still is that some here say to flush and others say no.
When I face that sort of problem & unsure the best solution, While I might query an anonymous forum for ideas, I rely on trusted sources. e.g.a pro repair shop owner, that I know their name, telephone number and their shop’s address. Especially true if I’ve had good luck with them on other questions prior.
The best answer to the flush or not flush issue probably varies car to car, depends on its make/year/ & configuration data

George was one of the guys who made me feel welcomed here. As you noted, he does ensure everyone gets a response and he shows that he cares.
Without a doubt, George is a great contributor on this forum
