Rumors about Toyota 4 cylinder truck engines

Heard rumors that after 2001, Toyota changed it’s 4 cyl. truck engine (Tacoma) and they do NOT last the way the older ones did (which would run well into the 200,000’s of miles). Two friends replaced 2003 engines in their Tacoma’s at around 60,000. Thinking of buying an 2003 Tacoma. thanks

It seems that the trucks from '99 to '01 were worse than the 2003 ones.

If you have two friends that replaced a 2003 model year engine from ANY manufacture at 60,000 miles you have two friends that are very hard on their cars (like driving with no coolant and no oil) and need to learn basic maintiance.

Oldschool is dead-on with that comment.
