your caller with the van that returned from overseas and had a series of electrical failures on the right side of his van could be explained by a poor body ground or multiple poor body grounds. He should clean the body grounds. it also makes sense that it was the gutter side of the car.
I had a 93 Ford Escort Wagon that was hit by lightening once, and had very similar symptoms. ALL of the lights in the back of the car went out at once and, strangely, the rear window wiper was stuck in the “on” position if the ignition was on. All I had to do was replace all the bulbs - and live with the car’s tail constantly wagging.
Given that this guy had his car shipped, I believe it could have been hit by lightening when it was out of his sight. That might have fried the motor in the window and/or done something very odd that you would not expect. I would say he should plan to take the whole window motor and switches apart and check EVERYTHING.
