I bought this car a 2021 dodge durango rt just a couple days ago. I am hearing 2 sounds, one is during the engine startup, it makes this weak / faint type of noise. The other noise is a rattling sound, occurs when you take off the car that goes on for about 2~ minutes.
Kindly asking if anyone can inform me if these are normal sounds or there is something definitely wrong. I have a 10-day window to return this car and I definitely do not want to be stuck with it if there is mechanical issues. There is only 30k miles on this car. Thank you for your time and help!
Did you happen to have your own mechanic check it out before you bought it? If not, (or even if so) take it to a local, trusted, independent shop and ask them to look everything over. Diagnosis by internet on vague reports of noises and 10 second videos is no way to make a decision like this.
You first video, btw, just sounds like a truck starting up. IDK what “faint noise” is concerning you. But I’m not standing there either. I just have several seconds of video.
The second one sounds like flimsy exhaust shielding cooling off. That wouldn’t be a problem with THIS truck - more just like a Dodge thing. But, once again, I’m not there.
As @cigroller said, get a post-purchase inspection ASAP to keep it in the 10 day window for return. Time is the most important issue here. If your usual shop can’t get you in, find another one that will. Make sure they know about the 10 day return window. That might help you get into the shop.
+1 for the above, it is very important to have about any vehicle checked out by a shop of your choosing before buying or right after buying a vehicle if you have a X day return policy…
Without being able to rack and raise the vehicle and hear the noise up close and personal, unless we have seen it a few times, it will be very hard to diagnose the noise, that is why you need a pro shop to check it out…
You could also join a Dodge Durango (RT) forum and ask if it is normal or not…
On start up, it just sounds like something is doing it’s job and normal noise, my 2023 truck makes some weird noises and is overall a noisy little V6 engine…
I have also read on a forum for my truck that it is a noisy engine so I just ignore it now…
The noise underneath, if that is after the vehicle has been at operating temp, then it could just be the exhaust cooling down, but without being able to check it out , it will be hard to properly diagnose…
On the first video if you are talking about that individual click sound, that could be the A/C compressor clicking on.
The second video just sounds like the exhaust cooling and is normal.
