New recalls
The Hyundai valve spring problem perplexes me. Wouldn’t valve spring technology be so advanced by now that all the potential valve spring problems would have been ironed out years ago?
You would think so, but problems with previously perfected systems keep cropping up as they’re changed to meet the latest needs.
More than likely, the supplier that makes valve springs for Hyundai cut some corners and/or had inadequate quality control.
Lexus issued a recall in 2010 to replace valve springs on 138,000 vehicles. I saved the old springs from the recalls I performed, about half a barrel.
Thanks for the photo. It’s hard to tell just from the barrel photo, but those valve springs seem to be a little longer than other valve springs I’ve seen.
