Recalls, wow!

GM recalls more than 62,000 top-selling vehicles, owners advised to park outside

Ford Issues ‘Do Not Drive’ Warning as 1.3 Million Vehicles Recalled

Ford wins. Almost every vehicle line is affected. Only the commercial HD pickups for Chevy have the problem.

The Ford recall is especially pathetic, imo

We have talked about the issue of being able to open doors with a mechanical latch before. Not electrical, not software, but a handle. Fire, water, crash, etc. need to be able to open all doors.

Let’s not forget about Honda’s large recall for brake pedals that “can become loose”.

I would have thought that every mfr whose vehicles have an electronic door latch would also provide a mechanical backup, but I guess I was wrong. My NX has electronic door latches that you push in order to open the door (form follows function, as Louis Sullivan preached), but pulling on that same latch will unlock the door mechanically.

Ford vehicles have mechanical door release handles:

" If the driver or front passenger exit the front doors using the mechanical inside release handles, the doors may remain locked when they are re-closed."

The problem is after the driver and passenger exit the vehicle, they might not be able to re-enter to retrieve a passenger. A software update will correct the problem.

Ford isn’t the only manufacture with back-up camera malfunctions, during the last two months 6 other manufactures have issued recalls for backup camera problems.

Chrysler (Ram) 235,640 trucks:

I do not know about malfunction, but 2017 rav 4 backup camera pretty worthless. Brightness all the way up but 90% of the time I cannot see enough due to glare on the screen. Wish it had the you are going to back into something beeper.

You posted the Yahoo article link, this is what it shows:

Ford also recently recalled nearly 1.1 million vehicles due to a rearview camera software defect that can cause the image to freeze or fail completely, raising the risk of backing accidents.
